Hot Spot (1963)

All right, so laugh –
But not too loud.

Sondheim made a limited contribution to Hot Spot, a musical about an American girl who joins the Peace Corps and ends up in the kingdom of D’hum in East Asia.

At the producers’ request, Sondheim wrote a new opening and closing number when the show ran into trouble. The new opening number was “Don’t Laugh”. Ultimately, it couldn’t save the show, which closed after 43 performances.
