Sondheim on Sondheim (2010)

Sondheim on Sondheim is a revue featuring Stephen Sondheim’s songs, interspersed with excerpts from interviews where the composer reflects on his life and work. The show debuted on Broadway and has since been performed in various locations across the United States and Australia. For Sondheim on Sondheim Stephen Sondheim wrote the song “God”, which can be heard here. In Look, I made a hat, Sondheim explains: “Embarrassed (although flattered) at having an evening not just of my work but with me as photographed host, I immediately fell into a familiar self-deprecating mode and wrote the following number, which was suggested by a New York Magazine headline that had asked the unanswerable camp question: “Is Sondheim God?””
